The Roulette Wheel
Roulette has two kinds of wheels - the European and American wheel. What are their differences? The European wheel contains 37 slots from 0 to 36 while the American wheel has an additional double zero-slot which makes it 38 slots all in all. In terms of house edge, the European wheel has a 2.63 percent house edge. The American roulette wheel, meanwhile, has 5.26 percent house advantage.
The Wheel's layout
Roulette started in France. In fact, the layout that you see right now is the same layout as the original wheel when the game was first introduced in 1842. Looking at the layout, you will see that there are two betting areas. The first is the inside area where you can see the individual numbers. The second betting area is the outside area where you can see boxes containing columns, colored and odd/even and other groups of numbers.
Roulette Buy-in
Buying-in refers to the purchase of special chips which would allow you to play roulette. Players are given special chips with varying colors to distinguish a player's chips from another's. The given chips are only allowed to be played in one table. Players are allowed to claim the chips' equivalent cash when the game ends.
Inside Bets
You are allowed to make various inside bets. The pay outs vary depending on the kind of inside bet that you made. For a straight up bet, you placed your bet on a single number and the pay out is 35 to 1. A split bet means you are betting on two numbers and the pay out is 17 to 1. A street bet's pay out is 11 to 1. A street bet is when you place your chips on the line which divides the outside and inside betting areas. A corner bet, meanwhile, gives you a pay out of 8 to 1. This bet is done when you placed your chips on the four corners of the numbers that you are waging. Basket bet means placing your bet on five numbers including zero, double zero, and the numbers one to three.
